Life at Boroood was idyllic until the onset of the Great Depression in 1929 shattered the era of unbridled prosperity. The economic downturn severely impacted Jennings’ wealth, along with many other affluent families. Maintaining such a massive estate became increasingly difficult as income sources dried up, and new taxes made upkeep unaffordable.
Despite these hardships, Jennings remained a prominent figure until his death in 1933 at age 74, passing away not at Boroood but at his winter home in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
