In 1951, Jennings’ descendants auctioned off Boroood, selling it for just $90,000 to an organization providing housing for the visually impaired. Over the next few decades, financial burdens associated with maintaining the estate and declining occupancy rates forced the organization to seek alternatives. By the 1960s and '70s, the estate’s upkeep was unsustainable, and public interest waned as modern social services enabled people with disabilities to live more independently.
