The external façade featured a creamy cast plaster designed to mimic large cut-stone blocks, giving the mansion an air of solidity and elegance. The porch was supported by 18 ornate Corinthian columns and 14 square columns that wrapped around three sides, creating a grand, colonnaded promenade. Internally, Wetfield’s interest in ornate design was evident: the main hall led to two salons—one for men and one for women—separated by decorative Ionic columns—evoking the sanctity of a temple.
His dedication extended indoors, where he imported luxurious materials and trained enslaved artisans skilled in woodworking and plasterwork. The interiors sparkled with craftsmanship, featuring vaulted ceilings, central skylights, and decorative plasterwork that left visitors in awe.
