Part 4/11:

During its peak in the 13th century, Cliff Palace likely housed around 100 residents—men, women, and children from various family lineages. Contrary to the misconception that it was a solitary ruler’s residence, it was a vibrant village composed of multiple small households.

The living spaces, or kivas, were circular chambers featuring central hearths, partial wall ventilation, and small ritual openings called sipapu, connecting the community’s daily life with spiritual practices. These structures served both as homes and ceremonial centers, emphasizing the intertwined nature of daily routines and spiritual traditions.
