Part 4/22:
Arizona’s oldest homes are the ancestral dwellings of the Pueblos on the cliffs of Navajo National Monument, dating back to around 1300 AD. These stone-and-mud structures with hundreds of rooms served as sophisticated cliffside apartments, complete with underground ceremonial chambers. Exploring these ruins offers a glimpse into life over 700 years ago and a chance to view a near-ghost town perched on the canyon rim.
Arkansas: Jacob Wolf Cabin
Built in 1829 on a bluff overlooking the White River, the Jacob Wolf Cabin is Arkansas’s oldest surviving residence. Constructed by pioneer Jacob Wolf, it’s a two-story wooden cottage that endured wars, floods, and neglect. Today, it operates as an interactive museum, providing insights into frontier life.
