Remarkably, he was among the first to shoot outside the United States—for instance, sending director Sidney Olcott and his team to Ireland in 1910—making Kalem the first American studio to film abroad. Under Marion’s leadership, Kalem produced over a thousand silent films spanning genres from melodramas to early serials, launching careers of silent film icons like Alice Joyce and promoting talented scenarist and actress Gene Gunthew.
