Part 7/12:
In 1923, Mizner developed Via Mizner, a charming shopping street designed to evoke an old European village. Inspired by Spanish and Mediterranean architectural motifs, the street featured white stucco walls, barrel-tile roofs, wrought-iron balconies, and lush courtyards. This concept of open-air shopping was pioneering at the time, predating popular mall concepts and becoming a beloved part of Palm Beach’s allure.
Mizner's Villa Mizner was itself a multifaceted property, with large corridors, shaded balconies, and a central courtyard—serving both as his home and studio. His upstairs studio, flooded with light from numerous windows, became a creative hub where he envisioned and sketched many projects, surrounded by Spanish antiques and his pet birds and monkeys.
