Part 8/12:
Innovations in Residential and Commercial Architecture
Mizner did not limit his influence to single-family homes. His design principles extended into large-scale commercial and institutional projects. One of his notable works was El Mirasol, a sprawling 147-room estate completed in 1919 for Evan and Ethel Stotesbury, featuring cloisters, expansive gardens, and imported centuries-old tiles. Though demolished in the 1950s, it set a standard for opulence and detail in Floridian architecture.
He also designed several other private villas with characteristic features such as sunny courtyards, flowing fountains, ornate wrought iron work, and colorful tile floors—each uniquely Spanish Mediterranean yet unmistakably Mizner’s own.
