In a drastic turn, Durant was forced to resign from GM in 1910 after only two years at the helm. Yet this setback did not break his spirit; instead, it fueled his comeback. In 1911, Durant partnered with Swiss-born race car driver and engineer Louis Chevrolet to launch Chevrolet Motor Car Company. Chevrolet quickly became a popular mid-priced car brand, and Durant used it as a strategic tool to regain control of GM.
