Part 7/11:
Perched atop Saks Stone Point, overlooking Lake Champlain, stands the estate’s most recognizable structure: the Shelburne House. Originally a simple country cottage around 1887, it was gradually expanded into a grand retreat by 1899. The final design combined Elizabethan Renaissance grandeur with rustic Vermont charm—featuring sweeping gabled roofs, half-timbered facades, elegant brick chimneys, and carved stonework. This house served as Lilian Vanderbilt's summer residence and a symbol of her refined taste and the estate's serene retreat.
