Part 14/15:
By the 1970s, the San Francisco Plantation was celebrated as one of Louisiana’s most important historic homes, recognized for both its distinctive architecture and its well-preserved artistic interiors. In 1974, it was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places and later received designation as a National Historic Landmark.
Preservation, Modern Challenges, and the Future
In 1976, the property was acquired by Marathon Oil, which collaborated with preservation experts to restore and maintain it. The estate was further managed by the San Francisco Plantation Foundation, aiming to protect its architectural integrity and share its rich narrative with the public.
