Eventually, Ballyshear transitioned ownership. In 1923, entrepreneur Charles E. Van Flik acquired the estate, initiating renovations that modernized the property. Landscape designs by renowned landscape architect Annet Huyett Flannders refreshed the gardens, while interior updates reflected the evolving tastes of the 1920s.
Throughout the 20th century, Ballyshear persisted amidst the decline of many grand estates, surviving financial strains and changing societal preferences. Its continued ownership preserved its historic integrity, and in 2011, it was purchased by a prominent New York City billionaire.
