By 1900, Conklin was ready to create a residence that reflected his accomplishments. In 1893, amidst his banking endeavors, he purchased 200 acres of forested land in Lloyd Harbor, Long Island. The secluded location was initially left largely untouched, but around 1906, Conklin began designing his dream estate.
