Following their deaths, the family's direct involvement in banking and real estate waned. The historic mansion on West 56th Street was auctioned in 1934, with its lavish furnishings sold off. Nevertheless, the house survived into the 21st century, earning recognition as a historical landmark in 2007 for its architectural significance.
The Fading of Grandeur and the Legacy of Loss
Meanwhile, Shorelands and Casamia faced a more tragic fate. The estate in Elberon fell into disuse as the family dispersed and changing tastes led to neglect. In 1963, Shorelands was devastated by a fire, reducing the mansion to ruins, and Casamia gradually disappeared after changing hands multiple times.
