Until now, the United States and France have played key roles in mediating peace talks. Referring to the negotiations, several Lebanese sources told Reuters that U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron are preparing to formally announce a ceasefire within the next 36 hours. U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein has been actively engaged in Beirut, attempting to finalize terms with Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Hochstein reportedly issued an ultimatum last Saturday, warning that the U.S. might withdraw from the negotiations if Israeli counterparts did not respond positively within a set timeframe.
