The violence escalated to the extent that demonstrators wrecked nearby businesses, smashed windows, and set vehicles on fire, including two which were incinerated outside the NATO convention center. Security was tight, with police eventually dispersing the crowds. According to Montreal Gazette reports, at least three arrests were made, with charges including assault and obstruction. The NATO summit, hosting 300 delegates focused on Ukraine, climate change, and the alliance’s future, continued amidst heightened security measures.
