Adding to the intrigue, Lou Alzando, the former head of the Pentagon's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), stated quite bluntly that the U.S., along with some adversaries, is actively in possession of UAPs and is engaged in efforts to cover up this fact. Alzando claimed that these craft are monitored and that the government has a secret crash retrieval program focused on reverse-engineering them. He accused elements within the government of suppressing and retaliating against whistleblowers and urged Congress to push for stronger protections to allow legitimate disclosures.
