Part 4/11:
Bunker Hill soon became home to some of the city’s most impressive residences, including the grand Bradbury House at the corner of Court and Hill Streets—a mansion built by Lewis L. Bradbury, a silver mine investor. Another iconic estate belonged to Margaret Crocker, wife of E. H. Crocker, a Supreme Court justice and a key figure in bringing the railroad to Southern California. The expansion of the railroad, especially with the completion of the Southern Pacific line in 1876 and the Santa Fe line in 1885, integrated Los Angeles into national trade and travel networks, fueling rapid growth.
