Part 4/11:

Number 4 spot belongs to Operation Anbe, the unprecedented hostage rescue mission conducted in 1976. An Air France flight traveling from Tel Aviv to Paris was hijacked by Palestinian and German militants and forced to land in Uganda, where they held the passengers hostage under the protection of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin.

Faced with immense pressure to save the hostages, Israel meticulously planned Operation Entebbe (also known as Operation Thunderbolt). Within less than a week, elite Israeli commandos flew over 2,500 miles to Uganda and launched a daring nighttime raid. The operation resulted in the killing of all hijackers and Ugandan soldiers, while rescuing 102 hostages. Tragically, Israeli commander Yonatan Netanyahu was killed—later father of Benjamin Netanyahu.
