Part 3/9:
Family Roots and London's Grandeur
While Tring Park was Walter’s childhood sanctuary, his family also resided in London—most notably at 148 Piccadilly. This large townhome exemplified luxury, with featuring reception rooms for formal visits, a library for socializing, and a glittering ball room illuminated by crystal chandeliers. These opulent surroundings instilled in Walter an early exposure to wealth and sophistication. Yet, despite the grandeur, his true passion was rooted elsewhere. His fascination with natural history and specimen collection grew far beyond these walls, setting him apart from the glittering social life of London.
