Among these was the Presby Palace, built between 1886 and 1888 at 750 East Broad Street. Initially commissioned by Mary E. Presby—a widow of a prominent hardware merchant—the mansion was designed to serve as a family residence, featuring sturdy construction with locally sourced marble-like stone, giving it a commanding presence over the cityscape.
