Following René de Longueil's death in 1677, the Château changed hands multiple times. Notably, in 1777, it was acquired by Charles X, then known as future King of France, and brother to Louis XVI. Under his reign, significant interior modifications were initiated, overseen by architect François Joseph Bellanger. However, financial hardships halted these renovations in 1782, leaving the mansion in a state of neglect.
