Part 6/14:
Limited to DH and outfield duties in recent seasons, Schwarber is a prime candidate for replacing Alonzo’s offense. Dependable and durable—he played all 162 games last year with Philadelphia—Schwarber boasts a streaky but formidable power bat, hitting 56 home runs last season. His OPS of .928 and high walk rate (around 36.5% last year) make him a prolific OBP contributor despite a lower batting average (.240).
However, Schwarber’s high strikeout rate (around 28%) and lack of positional versatility mean he would be utilized mainly as a designated hitter or occasionally in the outfield. Roberts notes that his offensive numbers—home runs, OPS—match or exceed Alonzo’s, but his strikeout propensity is a concern, especially if he hits under .240.
