Part 2/11:
The ongoing talks over a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remain uncertain. Senior officials from Qatar and Egypt recently met with Hamas leadership in Doha to discuss the Israeli proposal announced by President Biden last week. However, Hamas has publicly stated they haven't seen any Israeli proposals that align with Biden’s outline and are only willing to consider terms that prevent the resumption of hostilities after a hostage release.
Hamas’s leadership emphasizes their strategic patience, with some members feeling they currently hold the upper hand both militarily and diplomatically. Reports indicate that Hamas’s Gaza political chief, Yahya Sinir, believes the group has successfully transformed Israel into an international pariah, which could bolster their negotiating position.
