Part 7/14:
The wide receiving corps was equally essential. Paul Warfield, acquired in a 1970 trade, was a deep threat whose 29 receptions for 606 yards stretched defenses and opened lanes for the ground game. An eight-time Pro Bowler and Hall of Famer, Warfield remains active in fan affairs at age 82.
Marlon Brisco—a pioneer as the NFL’s first Black starting quarterback in modern history—converted to receiver and played a vital role in the undefeated run. His speed and hands added another dimension to Miami’s attack. After football, Brisco endured homelessness due to addiction but eventually reestablished himself as a community leader, founding a Boys and Girls Club before passing away in 2022 at age 76.
