In response, Florida’s authorities launched a multifaceted approach: bounty hunts, trapping programs, advanced tracking techniques, and even the use of drones and environmental DNA testing. Every year, thousands of hunters participate in events like the Python Challenge, removing hundreds, sometimes thousands, of snakes. Despite these efforts, the python population remains resilient. Each captured snake is only a small fraction of the total, as breeding female pythons can lay up to a hundred eggs per year, and their nests are notoriously difficult to locate.
