The critique extends into coaching methods, especially regarding player development and the ability to pass down knowledge. The commentator contends that some assistant coaches, such as Warren Sap and Marshall Faulk, are highly accomplished and do not need to be coached, only facilitated. However, in college settings, the approach has to differ: "you've got to coach what you're preaching and get in the trenches with them."
