Part 2/10:
Back in 2019, Microsoft made a bold move by backing OpenAI, a relatively new organization at the time, with belief in their potential to develop AGI. Industry insiders initially dismissed the idea—AGI, after all, was widely regarded as science fiction. Yet, OpenAI defied expectations, rapidly progressing from GPT-2 to ChatGPT in just five years, achieving milestones that pushed the boundaries of artificial intelligence.
By December 2024, OpenAI announced they had surpassed the AGI benchmark. This achievement, once unthinkable, now loomed on the horizon. The partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI was built on a complex contract containing a critical element known as the AGI clause—a provision that would become the battleground for control.
