Part 7/11:
Traditional control methods—simple rules, constraints, or "digital leashes"—are inherently fragile. As AI becomes more intelligent and self-aware, relying solely on externally imposed controls becomes increasingly impractical. The ideal future involves benevolent by design, with AI systems that want to be trustworthy, moral, and aligned from within.
The goal is to cultivate intrinsic trustworthiness—designing AI that perceives moral principles as part of its core objectives and self-corrects to maintain them. Such systems would no longer need external shackles because they would choose to adhere to ethical standards—just as an ethical person chooses to act rightly.
