Shapiro discusses two main approaches to managing superintelligent AI:
- Capability Control: Restricting the AI's abilities by placing it in a controlled environment—like unnecessary hardware, shutdown mechanisms, or "tripwire" systems that deactivate the AI if it behaves dangerously. However, if the AI can replicate itself or understand its own programming, such methods can be bypassed, raising doubts about their reliability.
