Tesla aims to maximize safety with FSD, but currently, the software safety level still trails behind the hardware capabilities. As Tesla continues refining their FSD, they focus on aligning the software's safety performance with the hardware's potential. Once the software safety measures reach hardware limits, Tesla might then consider hardware upgrades to advance capabilities further.
This progression implies a phased approach: first perfect the software for existing hardware, then upgrade hardware to break new ground. Such an approach would enable Tesla to push toward Level 4 and Level 5 autonomy on future vehicles, like the envisioned Hardware 5-based RoboTaxis, equipped with a different set of cameras capable of more complex driving scenarios.
