Senator Justinta Nampa Price, a woman of Indigenous and white ancestry, began her speech somewhat hesitantly but quickly grew in strength and conviction. She challenged the legitimacy of the current "Welcome to Country" ceremonies, arguing that they reduce Indigenous culture to a political token and an empty ritual. She emphasized that the acknowledgment practices often practiced in Parliament and public ceremonies have little to do with traditional Indigenous customs, which, she insists, are irrelevant in the context of genuine traditional culture.
