Part 2/6:
A significant development in UK politics is the burgeoning number of Members of Parliament (MPs) advocating for recognition of Palestine. Over 200 MPs from nine different parties have signed a joint letter urging Prime Minister K. Starmmer and the UK’s Foreign Secretary to move forward with this recognition.
Organized by Labour backbencher Sarah Champion, the letter has seen its signatory count continually increase beyond the initial tally of approximately 220 MPs — now reportedly over 222 and counting. With more than a third of the 650-strong House of Commons backing this stance, it underscores substantial backbench pressure on the government to align itself with this international and moral imperative.
