Leaders of South America: A Model for Success?
Turning southward, the political leaders of Argentina and El Salvador, notably President Javier Milley in Argentina and President Bukele in El Salvador, have achieved remarkable success through tough-on-crime policies and economic reforms. Bukele, praised for rapidly reducing homicide rates and curbing astronomical inflation, exemplifies a “strongman” approach that contrasts sharply with western liberal policies.
In particular, Bukele’s handling of criminal gangs and his ability to turn around El Salvador’s battered economy serve as a potential blueprint for other countries. Yet, Western media often ignores these successes, instead framing them as authoritarian or oppressive.
