One of the most compelling criticisms of the push for a carbon tax is Australia's limited impact on global emissions. Since 2005, Australia has cut its emissions by approximately 29%, reducing from 610 to 433 million tons. This environmental progress, however, pales in comparison to the exponential increase in emissions from China and India, which have doubled or more in the same period. China's emissions alone surged from 6.3 billion to 13 billion tons—more than thirty times Australia's reduction, rendering domestic efforts largely futile on a global scale.
