Schumer's Strategic Retreat and the GOP's Response
In a turning point, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer blinked first, publicly signaling willingness to scale back Democrat demands. His proposal was a compromise: a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) in exchange for a one-year extension of Obamacare premium tax credits, which are set to expire at the end of December. Interestingly, these exponents of the subsidies originally enacted the expiration date when they controlled Congress under Biden.
