Law Enforcement Heroism and Protecting Detainees
Officers responded under extremely dangerous circumstances. As Yan opened fire, ICE and ATF agents demonstrated remarkable bravery, risking their lives to rescue detained individuals. They moved quickly to evacuate detainees from transport vans and shield them from harm, despite being under continuous gunfire.
"These officers showed the true nature of law enforcement — courage, integrity, and self-sacrifice," stated Nancy Larson, acting U.S. Attorney for the district. She emphasized the heroism displayed by agents working to keep detainees safe even in the face of imminent danger.
