The backbone of this AI system is an EfficientNet V2 architecture—a state-of-the-art CNN known for its optimal balance between performance and efficiency. To handle gigapixel images—pictures containing billions of pixels—the researchers developed a novel method called Pyramid Tiling with Overlap (PTO). This technique divides enormous images into smaller, overlapping tiles, which are then analyzed individually. Despite analyzing fragments, the AI maintains an understanding of the entire tissue landscape, akin to piecing together a complex puzzle without losing sight of the full picture.
