A particularly pointed critique concerns the way crimes are investigated today. There is a perception that law enforcement agencies—such as police departments and federal bodies like the FBI—are increasingly unable or unwilling to determine the motives behind criminal acts, even when these motives are clear.
Historically, understanding a perpetrator's motive was fundamental to solving crimes and administering justice. Yet, in current times, even obvious motives seem to evade grasp. This issue is seen as a departure from the past, where authorities in some countries like Russia or China would readily identify motives due to straightforward investigative procedures.
