One recurring theme in coverage of Portland protests is the disparity of narratives. Official statements often depict the protests as violent, chaotic, and predominantly led by anarchists or "Antifa" activists. On the ground, however, reports from journalists and witnesses suggest a different picture—regular civilians, sometimes caught in the crossfire, witness that police responses are disproportionately targeting conservative voices, while leftist violence often goes unpunished.
