Part 7/12:
Perhaps most troubling are Mdani’s positions on Israel and Jewish organizations. He has supported legislation aiming to ban Jewish nonprofits from fundraising, citing alleged support for Israel as a rationale. Following a primary victory, he expressed support for a bill that would prohibit Jewish nonprofits from raising money, framing it as a response to alleged unauthorized support for Israel.
Mdani’s history as an outspoken anti-Israel activist includes support for Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) and accusations of supporting efforts to “globalize the inifada.” Such statements have generated condemnation, particularly amid concerns about anti-Semitism and the safety of the city’s significant Jewish population, which is the largest outside of Israel.
