One of the primary drivers behind the soaring fuel prices in Washington is the state's high gas taxes. The state’s per-gallon tax rate has increased from 49.4 cents to 55.4 cents, further augmented by recent targeted taxes to fund infrastructure projects like roads and bridges. Beginning July 1st, another 6 cents per gallon was added to support these initiatives, with annual increases of 2% to adjust for inflation. Diesel fuel is not spared either—it faces additional increases, pushing costs upward consistently.
