Part 2/11:
Milwaukee has recently seen several grocery store closures, including five Pick and Save locations, which is part of a broader trend across many U.S. cities. These closures contribute to food deserts—areas where residents lack easy access to affordable, healthy food. Activists and community leaders often attribute these closures to racism or neglect by corporations, claiming that stores are leaving minority neighborhoods because of discrimination.
However, skepticism arises when analyzing the actual reasons behind store closures. Stores aren't simply pulling out because they dislike the communities; rather, economic sustainability and safety issues play a significant role.
