Part 3/12:
A recent explosive Reuters investigation sheds light on the magnitude of these activities. On March 8th, a tanker named Torm Agnes, carrying nearly 120,000 barrels of diesel, entered the port of Insanada on Mexico’s Pacific coast—an unusual sight for such a port, which typically handles cruise ships and luxury yachts.
The report reveals that this tanker was unloaded overnight into fuel trucks managed by cartel-linked groups, running what may be Mexico’s largest-ever diesel theft operation. Crucially, the crude oil was transferred from the tanker through hoses directly into trucks, highlighting a well-organized operation run with high-level logistics and support from international actors.
