Despite the excitement, many industry analysts posit that China is acting as a fast follower rather than a pioneer. Historically, Chinese AI companies have excelled at reverse engineering and improving upon existing technologies developed in the West, doing so at a cheaper cost. While China’s capability to replicate and optimize AI models is impressive, it remains to be seen whether it can lead in creating entirely novel and innovative AI applications that the US firms have driven forward.
