Switching to organ on a chip technology offers significant ethical advantages. It promises to drastically reduce, if not eliminate, the need for animal testing, addressing a long-standing moral concern. The improvement in scientific outcomes is equally compelling. Human biology often differs markedly from that of other species, leading to critical gaps in the accuracy of preclinical testing.
This discrepancy explains why, astonishingly, about 95% of drugs that appear promising in animal trials fail in human trials. Organ on a chip systems could bridge this gap, offering more reliable predictions of how drugs will behave in the human body, ultimately accelerating development and improving safety.
