The Rising Tide of Femicide and Organized Crime Violence in Mexico
Over the past few months, Mexico has been rocked by a series of harrowing stories involving murdered women, drawing international attention and sparking widespread concern. While femicide—the killing of women because of their gender—has historically been a pressing issue in Mexico and many other countries, recent incidents have shown a disturbing escalation reminiscent of the early 2010s. These murders are increasingly used as tools of intimidation and messaging by organized crime groups, specifically drug cartels, to exert control and instill fear within communities.
