For nearly two decades, the US and allied forces fought to dismantle terrorist networks in Afghanistan, aiming to eliminate al-Qaeda and establish a stable government. Despite efforts, the Taliban remained resilient, often enabling, supporting, or harboring jihadist fighters from al-Qaeda, the Islamic State, and other groups. The US invested heavily in nation-building efforts, but corruption, weak governance, and external complicity hampered progress.
