The Complexity of Language and Artificial Intelligence
In recent discussions about artificial intelligence (AI), a fundamental challenge arises from how humans traditionally perceive intelligence and consciousness. Up until now, language has been a primary marker used to identify and differentiate living beings with consciousness from non-living entities. We have long associated the way an entity communicates—its use of language, its ability to understand, and respond meaningfully—with being truly intelligent and conscious.
