However, in this instance, the deployment of Marines and National Guard troops has not immediately resulted in a reduction of violence. They are primarily acting in an observational capacity, guarding federal buildings and providing backup, but lack authority to detain or arrest individuals. Early reports indicated some National Guard units arrived in the morning, but violence persisted into the night.
